Parts 2 and 3 of this series are going to convince that buying these dresses is somehow unethical right? Because I had never heard of these before and now I want them. Because I’d love to cosplay Anne of Green Gables. Which is probably a questionable fashion choice for a middle aged lady who works in a heavily male federal agency.

This is classic Meg: starting one place and then ending up someplace else because that’s just where the story leads, or at least when you’re curious and inquisitive.

Although I would love to believe manifestation works (ask and ye shall receive/your wish is my command), it's always made me feel uneasy for all the reasons you've written about. It separates us into winners or losers. How awful to believe that not getting something I want is my own fault? What about delayed gratification or timing or hard work or external circumstances outside of my control? It's similar to how I prayed as a child. Gimme, gimme gimme. If I don't get it, it's because I'm a sinner or I didn't pray hard enough. I'm looking forward to parts 2 and 3.

The pastor of the church I attended just after college called prosperity gospel "Grand Theft Jesus," (despite this church subscribing to prosperity gospel a bit!) and I have never been able to get that out of my head.

Thank you for tying "manifesting" to the prosperity gospel bc YES! Been feeling this for some time and always somewhat shocked when ppl I know would never affiliate themselves w/prosperity Jesus wind up subscribing to manifestation as a literal/metaphysical process.
